Ethical eggs flourish

Sales of rare hen breed eggs have been boosted 40%, claims supplier Clarence Court, as a result of it promoting its ethical production. The company is planning to launch goose, pheasant and bantam eggs as well. It sells through retailers including Waitrose, Fresh & Wild, Booths, Harrods, Fortnum & Mason, Tesco and Sainsbury's.

Free range launch

Christine and Catherine Jackson of Detchant Farm in Northumberland have launched Sunny Hill Free Range Eggs, which will produce almost 10 million eggs next year to RSPCA Freedom Food and Lion Quality standard. The hens are kept happy in their runs and houses with hanging baskets, radio music and footballs.
