Farmers lose out 

Retail pork prices are rocketing but farmers have yet to benefit, according to a survey by BPEX plotting the retail-farmgate price spread. Since July, shelf prices are up 9% but farmers are getting 1% less. 

Low prices protest 

The NFU is launching its 'Why Beef and Sheep Farming Matters' campaign next week to draw attention to unsustainably low beef and lamb prices, backed by Eblex and the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England. 

Bluetongue tender 

The government has tendered for 10-20 million doses of bluetongue vaccine in a move that the meat industry has welcomed as a step towards mass vaccination to prevent the virus spreading next year.
