Shoppers plumped for old-fashioned starters last Christmas, a study by Somerfield indicates. Simple 1970s favourites, such as soup and prawn cocktail, emerged as the most popular way to kick off festive meals, with pasta, sushi and risotto least popular.
Dye rules obeyed
Most imported foods comply with laws covering illegal dyes, according to the first large-scale test since the Sudan 1 food scare in 2005. The FSA found that out of 893 samples, just six contained illegal food dyes.
