Sales of all Christmas-related groceries will hit £1.07bn this year - 4% more than last year - the British Retail Consortium and Nielsen have predicted. Each household will spend about £169 on food and drink, pushing the average cost of Christmas lunch to £16.

Levels of radiation in food are below limits set by the EU and are not harmful to consumers, according to the FSA's latest Radioactivity in Food and the Environment report.
