The UN's International Year of the Potato 2008 kicked off this month. The activity aims to promote awareness of the potato's value in the global food chain.
Banana rules stay
The European Commission has confirmed that it has no plans to alter its restrictions on imports of abnormally bendy bananas, stating that no growers, buyers or consumers had objected to the rules.
Call for state support
The UK berry sector has called for more backing from local, national and European politicians. Only then would British growers be able to compete effectively with international rivals, said Marion Regan of producer co-operative KG Growers.
