The Co-ops and the symbols/independents sector is out-performing grocery multiples and multiple off licences in sales of still wines, according to ACNielsen Scantrack data.
Still wine has grown 10% within the sector over the last 52 weeks, and accounts for 24% share of total alcohol sales, which is up 2% on last year. This growth has been driven by the New World wines, all of which have seen double-digit year-on-year growth within the sector. In order to take full advantage of the increased consumer interest in New World wines some retailers have changed their store layouts to boost sales.
Key growth drivers within the sector have been the US and Australian wines. Together they account for 40% of still wine sales and both show upward sales growth trends.
