>>poor availability eats into retailers’ sales

Sandwiches, soups and heated meals have the greatest opportunity for growth in c-stores and forecourts if the out-of-stock issue is addressed, according to the latest research from Harris International Marketing.
In a survey of 1,220 snacking and prepared meals (SNAP) shoppers, HIM found that if availability were improved operators could increase sandwich sales by 43%, soups by 100% and heated meals by 150%.
“There is no doubt SNAP is growing in importance but it requires discipline to be successful. Consumers are walking into shops saying, ‘I’m here to buy a sandwich’, but many are leaving empty handed,” said chief executive Mike Greene.
