Scottish independent Innis & Gunn has unveiled a new style of fruit beer designed to be served over ice.

The brewer said it has pioneered the use of cold-pressed fruit juice to create the 4.1% abv Melville's Strawberry and Melville's Raspberry (rsp: £1.59/275ml) beers, which rolled out to Tesco stores this week.

"We grow some of the world's best strawberries and raspberries here in Scotland," said Innis & Gunn MD Dougal Sharp, who sourced the fruit juice from Scottish supplier Ella Drinks. "The juice is so fresh it only has a one-day shelf life, but the resulting beer is sensational," said Sharp, who added that the fruit beer category mainly made up of imported Belgian products had great growth potential.

"Our British-made fruit beer could shake up this sleeping category and help bring it up to date for modern drinkers," he said.
