Prawns both a light meal and a treat



Prawns are frequently eaten as a treat compared with other foods and this type of meal accounts for 17% of meal occasions. Both prawn curry (12% of occasions) and prawns and rice (15% of occasions) are popular choices and tend to be eaten by younger consumers. Prawns are most frequently eaten with salad vegetables, particularly tomatoes, and 15% of prawn meal occasions are as part of a sandwich. Lunch accounts for nearly a quarter of meals and teatime and the evening meal accounts for 71%.
