Irish sausages are the worst in Europe, with filler and white instead of meat, and some rashers are equally poor, according to celebrity chef Richard Corrigan.

Dublin-born Corrigan, has begun cookery programmes on RTE, the Irish national station, by urging viewers to reject "industrial pork in favour of real food" and to favour local produce.

His criticism was dismissed by Galtee, one of Ireland's top-selling sausage brands. "The public offers its own assessment of our quality products by buying them in increasing numbers," said a spokesman.
