Soil and Seed – the exclusive-to-Tesco veg box scheme – is suspending its service ahead of a planned relaunch later this year.
The brand launched in autumn last year and offered a variety of fruit, veg and mixed boxes through Tesco.com and through soilandseed.co.uk.
However, last week Soil and Seed posted a statement on its website: “After a well-received 12-week trial, organic produce box service Soil and Seed will pause for further IT development with a view to relaunching later this year.”
Feedback from customers about the scheme had been positive but Soil and Seed had experienced IT problems that had prevented some deliveries getting through to customers, William Rose, owner of Tio, which operates the scheme, told The Grocer. “We weren’t able to offer the service to everybody we wanted to because we have some issues we want to resolve.”
Rose anticipated the brand would return to Tesco by the autumn although he claimed it was too early to say whether it would continue as Soil and Seed or whether it would be rebranded. “We hope to come back bigger and better than our trial,” he said. He added that Tesco had been “absolutely brilliant” during the trial.
A spokeswoman for Tesco repeated the statement on the Soil and Seed website and said that Tesco could not add anything further at this stage.
