CAMRA last week unveiled a bold new strategy to get regular folks drinking 'proper' beer positioning the stuff as a dieting aid.

"Swapping wine for beer for a single week saves as many calories as a half-hour jog," it boasted, though the maths were sketchy and relied on halving your alcohol intake (cheating, surely).

Still, it would explain why so many blokes at last week's Great British Beer Festival with beards and sandals matched by cask-sized bellies didn't really seem the jogging type.
