The National Farmers' Union has launched a hotline advising shoppers on where to buy turkeys direct from the farm for Christmas dinners. The line went live on November 21 and will run until Christmas Eve. Over 150 farmers representing about 50,000 fresh farm turkeys are taking part in the scheme. NFU deputy president Tim Bennett said the initiative would provide "a boost to the rural economy". He added: "By choosing a turkey straight from the farm, shoppers are assured of buying good quality and value fresh farm meat raised to high animal welfare standards." {{NEWS }}
