Sainsbury is selling single bananas by the checkout desk at 35 of its petrol forecourt stores in a trial geared towards promoting healthy eating.
The bananas are branded “energy boost” and merchandised alongside the confectionery, priced 29p each.
Before Christmas, Asda announced it planned to sell fresh fruit at its checkouts for a trial period, following criticism in a Food Commission survey it targeted children with junk food by displaying it by the tills.
The trial starts in February.
