Wines from South Africa are at the top of Sainsbury’s agenda as part of a series of changes to its range.

More than 40% of its current South African listings will be swapped for new lines from the country. New additions will
include an exclusive parcel of Sauvignon Blanc from Steenberg, which Sainsbury believes is becoming one of the “finest estates in South Africa”, as well as limited amounts of a Riesling and a Pinot Grigio, both of which are expected in store early next year.

The retailer has also outlined plans to increase the number of wines in its own label Classic Selection range.

The portfolio, which aims to offer the “best wines that epitomise the classic areas of the Old World”, has been extended with a Claret, with a Soave and Alsace Gewürztraminer also in the pipeline.
