The UK's hottest June for three years has fuelled a massive spike in ice cream sales.

Fredericks Dairies, which makes Cadbury and Del Monte ice creams under licence, saw June sales up 50% on 2008, boosted by the hot weather and problems with competitors' supply. It is currently running a 24-hour production schedule to meet demand.

"June was an exceptional, record-breaking month," said owner Frank Fredericks. Last month the company filled the void as retailers' stocks ran down due to manufacturing problems at Unilever.
