Changes to European labelling rules will mean dairy processors have to list all ingredients used in the manufacture of products.
At present, under national rules, producers only have to list added ingredients such as fruit. But in future, enzymes, cultures and salt will also have to be listed.
The changes to the EU food labelling directive, part of a review of the legislation, will also mean information regarding how all food products should be stored will have to be placed immediately after the specified best-before date. At present, this information can be placed apart on packs.
The FSA is consulting the industry about the changes.
