Ferry set for carcases Lamb buyers are confronted by the threat of new price pressure as producer controlled live sheep exporter Farmers Ferry plans to extend its operations into carcase meat shipping. Livestock producers in England have a poor track record in establishing and managing meat processing businesses, and even experienced operators are finding the lamb carcase export trade difficult. But the current margin squeeze is attributed partly to the unexpected success of Farmers Ferry in boosting live sales to France, forcing up the cost of throughput for abattoir operators here. This means the new enterprise has sound management credentials, yet appears to be set on competing against itself. {{MEAT }}
