Sir: It is encouraging to see WWF UK making a more considered and balanced assessment of the environmental impacts of different red meat production systems and also recognising average red meat consumption in the UK is not excessive (‘Is poultry facing a backlash from green campaigners?’ 10 April). The UK livestock and meat industry recognises that red meat production does have environmental impacts - both adverse and benign - and, through bodies such as Eblex, is working to disseminate good practice.
