Sir: I read recently that the UK cheese industry is growing and there are now as many varieties of cheese in the UK as in France.
Sadly, I’m not sure if UK companies in the grocery sector such as cheese manufacturers really are keen to develop exports sometimes.
I happened to meet a regional senior executive of probably one of the largest supermarket chains in the country. In addition to French cheese, his chain also sold Italian and Dutch cheese - but none from the UK. Many people are intensely interested in the Olympics and I’m surprised this hasn’t been used to start promoting and marketing UK agricultural products.
