Sir: The Grocer’s ‘Switch the Lights’ campaign is a fantastic initiative, which shows how small changes can make a big difference when it comes to energy consumption.

At npower we believe the significant cost and energy efficiency LED lighting offers makes its use a no-brainer. The need to secure our low carbon future means energy efficiency must become a priority for all of us, but there’s also a strong business case for making it so. 

Our recent report, The Twenty Per Cent Imperative, showed how industrial and commercial businesses - including large retailers - can collectively realise annual savings in excess of £4bn if they reduce energy consumption by 20%. 

Improving the way we use energy is often easier than businesses might think. Simple measures like on-site power generation and more efficient operational practices - not least the greater use of LED lighting - can help deliver these savings.
