Sir, I feel Tim Lang is being unduly dismissive of the Green Food Project (17 March). Unlike previous government attempts to work with industry and environmental stakeholders on the challenges faced by the UK food system, this is the first that explicitly recognises that food production in the UK must increase at the same time as improving the environment.

We must move beyond a cyclical narrative about the Foresight report and 2050 to identify what must be done by who and at what cost to help us produce more and impact less. This may include how we can sustainably increase dairy and livestock production in response to global demand.
