Sir: There is a reason for the longevity of canned foods. Your Focus on Canned Goods (28 July) illustrated the resolve and dynamics of the industry excellently. The industry has moved with the times and the introduction of innovative products means consumers today get excellent value and variety.

Most of today’s consumers fail to appreciate the nutritional benefits of canned food changing these perceptions is one of our greatest challenges.
