Lidl plains to boost its Champagne stocks by a quarter this Christmas after “unprecedented demand” last year left it short.
The Comte de Brismand Champagne, which retails at £12.99 but was discounted to £9.99 over Christmas and the new year, sold out in January and was unavailable until March. Lidl was forced to move stock from elsewhere in Europe to satisfy UK demand.
“Champagne is one of our hero products and we are currently working to make sure we don’t run out this year,” said a spokeswoman. “After analysing the sales figures from last year, we’re going to increase the volume of Champagne stock this Christmas by around 25%,” she said.
