Simon Burke, Majestic Wine’s chairman for the past five years, will step down at the company’s next AGM in August.

Former New Look chairman Phil Wrigley has been named as chairman-designate. He will join the Majestic board in April as a non-executive director and succeed Burke when he steps down.

“I would like to thank Simon for the very significant contribution he has made to the success of Majestic over the last 10 years,” said chief executive Steve Lewis.

“I am looking forward to welcoming Phil to the board in April. His broad retail and property experience will be invaluable in continuing to grow the Majestic story.”

The news comes after Majestic earlier this month unveiled a rise in like-for-like sales of almost 12% for the key festive period. The company credited the improved performance in part to cutting its minimum order size from 12 bottles to six - a move first implemented in February and made permanent last November.
