An increased customer base has helped to boost Majestic Wine's pre-taxprofit 34% to £5.9m. The wine warehouse chain, which opened its 100th store in May, reported sales up 20.6% to £104.6m for the year to the end of March. Chief executive Tim How said: "Growth has been achieved by differentiation from competitors." The average spend per transaction remained steady at £102, with the average bottle price at £5.35.
