Spanish fruit growers have launched a quality-assurance scheme for mandarins. Fruit with the new Clemcott label will be hitting British supermarket shelves from January 2011 and will be sold until April.

Only premium-quality Nadorcott mandarins would be selected, which would offer fruit with "full flavour," said Spanish growers' association CVVP. The label would make Clemcott fruit "the only certified mandarin of quality" and would ensure consumers were able to make an informed choice when shopping, it added.
