A premium branded mandarin variety grown in South Africa has made its debut at Britain's major multiples this summer.
CitroGold's ClemenGold varieties are bright orange, thin-skinned, easy peel citrus fruit with fewer pips than other mandarins.
They have a longer shelf life and last up to two weeks from date of purchase when refrigerated. This year is the first time major volumes of the fruit have been exported to the UK.
CitroGold said it aimed to supply more during the 2008 season, once consumers had developed a taste for the mandarins. It is marketing the fruit as a premium product.
