Marks & Spencer has celebrated reaching one million Facebook fans by gifting each fan a penny to donate to charity.
The retailer will match the donations meaning the four charities - Royal British Legion, MacMillan Cancer Care, Shelter and the Newlife Foundation - will share a pot of £20,000.
Fans will be able to make their choice using a Facebook app on the M&S page, which will go live over the next three weeks.
To encourage fans to choose a charity, M&S has commissioned an art installation from a million pennies borrowed from the Bank of England that has been videoed and embedded in the app.
“We’re thrilled to have passed such a significant milestone,” said Lou Jones, M&S’s head of online and digital marketing.
“Our ‘Thanks A Million’ campaign is our gift to every fan and further supports the great work we do with our charity partners through Plan A.”
