Confectioner Mars, is rumoured to be ending the production of chocolate products in Britain and may close its Slough-based factory.

The maker of Twix bars and M&Ms has said it has been undertaking a review of its European business and as part of the restructuring the family-owned business may consolidate its European operations to increase efficiency.

A report in today’s Guardian noted that a Mars spokesperson would not comment as the outcome of the consolidation was not known.

The possible factory closure follows UK jobs cuts at Rowntree, owned by Swiss firm Nestle, and also job cuts at Cadbury Schweppes Bournville plant in Birmingham last year.
