Marston's has rolled out casks of its Pedigree beer into the off-trade to meet demand from pub-goers who are now spending more evenings at home.

The Pedigree Minicask contains eight pints of ale and has an rsp of £19, working out at £2.37 a pint.

It has a 28-day shelf life and launches into Ocado and Costco this week.

Sales and marketing director of Marston's, James Coyle, said the ale industry required a greater level of packaging innovation to capitalise on the growing number of people spending evenings at home, though he denied it was about stealing share from the on-trade.

"This will appeal to people who don't normally go to pubs too frequently, but want a quality cask ale in the comfort of their living room," said Coyle.

"Packaging innovation in ales has been lacking."
