The National Farmers' Union has urged the industry to support home-produced meat as Brazil prepares a big marketing campaign for its beef. NFU vice president Tim Bennet said: "We have been working hard with the food industry to generate support for British meat at this time, and we fervently hope that retailers will continue to support home-produced food." The Brazilian ambassador to the UK and the minister of agriculture are due to launch a Brazilian beef promotion next month, after an event scheduled for this week had to be cancelled. Brazil has a foot and mouth outbreak, but exports beef from parts of the region which have not been affected by the disease. Bennet said: "British livestock farmers will be concerned to learn that Brazil is heavily promoting its beef to British consumers at a time when the UK is unable to export any meat. "We hope that, as the UK approaches the end of this epidemic, we will also be able to export our own meat again very quickly." {{NEWS }}
