British meat bodies have turned their attention to Hong Kong as they attempt to boost exports outside the EU.
Eblex, Quality Meat Scotland and Hybu Cig Cymru took key meat exporters to Hong Kong food and hospitality show HOFEX this week.
Eblex export manager Jean-Pierre Garnier said Hong Kong was “very important” for premium meat, and HOFEX served as a “shop window” to other markets in Asia.
According to HMRC figures, exports of British beef and veal to Hong Kong increased fivefold last year to 5,000 tonnes.
AHDB senior market analyst Debbie Butcher said South East Asia was a growing region that was “adding returns to the whole supply chain”.
