Baby melons with seeds that are small enough to swallow  increasing the convenience of the fruit  are being developed by seed breeder Nunhems. It has begun with watermelons weighing around 2kg and hopes to be able to use its expertise on other types such as Galia, Honeydew, Cantaloupe, Piel de Sapo and Charentais. The UK is an important market for the fruit, particularly during August when multiples use the different shapes and colours to spearhead promotions. Last year the UK sold a total of 156,000 tonnes valued at over £67m. Spain was the major summer supplier with 91,000 tonnes, over 58% of the annual figure. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
