Variety is spice of life With the Spanish melon season due to get under way soon, growers in Almeria are enthusiastic over a new Galia- type variety called Siglo. This melon matures earlier even in cooler temperatures and still manages to reach the right sugar levels. The Ejidomar Co-op is expecting a market of about 4,500 tonnes, and is already being followed by several other producers in the province. Breeder Sygenta Seeds is testing other varieties in south and central America which will meet European needs in the winter. Many of these are the Cantaloupe type. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
