Milk Link has announced the senior commercial team which will lead the business following its July acquisition of processing facilities from Express Dairies.
Mike Newitt has been recruited as commercial director, retail, by the farmer-owned milk buying and processing co-operative and will be responsible for managing relationships with retail customers, including sales and marketing activity.
He said he aims to "put life back into the neglected long life milk market by developing exciting new products and packaging". He was previously md of Tanner Foods, the UK's second largest UHT processor.
Adrian Else, formerly Express Dairies' sales director, has been made commercial director, milk and ingredients. He will develop Milk Link's milk and ingredients business with key food manufacturers such as Geest and United Biscuits. He said he would be particularly looking to develop added-value products: "There are opportunities in different sectors, ranging from brand extensions through to new brands. Segmentation is critical in finding the most attractive opportunities to pursue."
David Coleman, Express Dairies' UHT director, has become supply chain director, managing all logistics and group procurement and overseeing distribution from producers to processors to retailers.
Milk Link paid £30m in July for processing facilities belonging to Express Dairies.
The deal makes Milk Link the fourth largest integrated dairy business and the UK's leader in UHT milk.
