A joint Milk Link and M&S cheese packaging trial has achieved major reductions in the level of packaging used and recycled.
Project Greenscape, an initiative aimed at reducing the environmental impact of cheese packaging, is set to deliver a 23% reduction in the weight of primary packaging supplied during the course of this year. Some 39% of the packaging is suitable for recycling, while a quarter of all the packaging used is from recycled raw material.
Developments included work on barrier film, base webs, top webs, stand-on trays and labels.
The initiative fits into M&S's Plan A packaging pledge.
