Figures from the Rural Payments Agency show that levels of UK milk output remained low in September and into early October.
Total milk deliveries to dairies during September were 2.4%, or nearly 27 million litres less than in September last year.
It is the tenth successive month in which a year-on-year decline in milk output has been recorded.
The decline also means that the cumulative shortfall in the first half of the milk quota year from April 1 stands at 275 million litres, or 3.7%.
