Robert Wiseman Dairies said it was “surprised and disappointed” by the OFT’s decision to re-open its inquiry into anti-competitive practices in the Scottish milk market.

The inquiry, which investigated claims of price fixing and market sharing in the supply of milk to middle ground retailers, closed last October after months of investigations failed to substantiate the allegations. However, new evidence had come to light, said an OFT spokeswoman.

Robert Wiseman, one of several companies under investigation, said it had not been told what the new evidence was, but would co-operate fully with the OFT. Chairman Alan Wiseman added: “We have always maintained that there is no case to answer.”
