Robert Wiseman Dairies has hailed an “excellent performance” so far for the second half of the year, buoyed by new business with The Co-operative Group and contracts picked up following the collapse of Dairy Farmers of Britain.

Like-for-like sales for the 17 weeks to 23 January were up 10.5% on last year, with sales to both Tesco and Sainsbury’s were head of expectations.

But sales of its Fresh'n'Lo and The One milk lines were hit after Tesco last year ditched them in favour of a new 0.75% version, dubbed Creamfields, also packed by Robert Wiseman.

Meanwhile, the company said it paid staff that worked during the recent severe weather conditions one-off bonuses totalling £400,000. Robert Wiseman claimed its new £14m Amesbury depot, which came on stream in November, had helped the company cope with demand since.
