Kraft Foods has revealed the new name for its global snacks business will be Mondelēz International.

The title, pronounced mohn-dah-LEEZ, which it said had been chosen to evoke the idea of “delicious world”, will come as a surprise for anyone expecting a more conservative name change.

Kraft revealed last year that it planned to split its business between the North American grocery giant, Kraft Food Group and its worldwide snacks empire, including UK based business Cadbury.

“The Kraft brand is a perfect fit for the North American grocery business and gives it a wonderful platform on which to build an exciting future,” said chairman and CEO Irene Rosenfeld.

“For the new global snacks company, we wanted to find a new name that could serve as an umbrella for our iconic brands, reinforce the truly global nature of this business and build on our higher purpose – to ‘make today delicious’.”
