Time is running out to enter the Retail Cheese Awards sponsored by The Grocer and Dairy Crest Prizes worth more than £10,000 are on offer, and the six regional finalists will be invited to a prestigious awards ceremony at London's Café Royal on September 2. There are two classes in the competition: one for specialist independents; and the other for symbol group members, multiples and co-ops with delicatessen counters. All finalists will be given a commemorative silver plaque, and the national winners in each class will receive £2,500 and Dairy Crest Cheese to the value of £1,000. Regional winners will each receive a cash prize of £500. Dairy Crest trade relations controller Stephen Gover said: "This competition plays a vital part in our efforts to encourage counter staff to improve their knowledge of the cheese they are selling." He added: "We've had a very promising take up of entry forms, but we are still hoping for a further several hundred to be returned. "People need to take their photos and return them with the entry forms before the Golden Jubilee bank holiday to ensure they don't miss out on the chance to win substantial cash prizes and national recognition." l How to enter see p24 {{NEWS }}
