There was brisk business on the bacon markets this week.
Both Danish and Dutch traders reported continuing strong demand following last week's price rises, with further increases possibly on the horizon. The Danes said legs and gammons were performing well, and there was talk of further rises in back bacon.
Meanwhile Dutch traders said the market was firing on all cylinders this week with demand high.
However a severe shortage of raw material, with the kill in the Netherlands down by around 25%, was having an impact, said traders.
"We're running very much hand to mouth," said one, "and it looks like continuing for the next two to three weeks."
