While the majority of fruit is bound for the US market, the UK is also seen as a having greater significance as demand grows. Total fruit shipped to this market has risen by over 40%.
Many orchards are operating minimal residue and pesticide-free growing programmes and have achieved EurepGAP accreditation, critical to compete against competitive lower priced fruit from Brazil.
