Morrisons struck gold at the International Wine Challenge 2014 with the only own-label tipple to be awarded a top gong.
It won for its Signature Alsace Gewürztraminer 2012 wine(rsp: £7.99), while Sainsbury’s, Asda and M&S achieved a maximum of silver for their own labels. M&S topped the table with 22 silvers and 23 bronzes.
The IWC, organised by The Grocer publisher William Reed Business Media, has this year changed its judging schedule and now holds two tastings a year rather than one.
“By hosting two events we ensure that no matter where or when a wine is produced, it will be given the best chance for success,” said IWC co-chairman Charles Metcalfe.
