Morrisons has hired former Peacocks MD Tim Bettley as commercial director for clothing.

Bettley becomes Morrisons’ first non-food commercial director and is believed to have been hired to extend the supermarket’s clothing range and launch an own-brand fashion label.

Morrisons has worked closely with Bettley already, as Peacocks currently operates three concessions in its supermarkets. Morrisons also sells Peacocks children’s clothes in 21 other stores.

The move comes after Peacocks was bought out of administration by Edinburgh Woollen Mill last month.

Morrisons is set to release its full year results tomorrow, when it is also expected to give an update on its plans to launch a transactional non-food website and introduce its Kiddicare products into its stores.
