Müller UK is planning a major expansion of its Shropshire dairy to pave the way for new products.

Planning documents filed with Shropshire county council show that Müller intends to build additional facilities over an area of 24.25ha on the outskirts of Market Drayton.

The new manufacturing, storage and distribution facilities would "satisfy increasing demand for their existing products", according to the planning statement submitted in February, which claimed it would create 300 new jobs for the region.

The latest detailed planning application follows the granting of outline planning permission in March 2009 by the council.

Shropshire planning committee is expected to make a decision by 23 May.

Müller's existing facility produces 1.68 billion pots of yoghurt and desserts a year, with a combined retail value of about £425m.
