M&S boosts its sales Category management at Marks and Spencer has resulted in substantial improvements in fruit and veg sales in the last 18 months, senior fruit buyer Gary Lindsell told the NFU's Horticulture in Focus conference. This had been achieved not only through closer consultation with suppliers but also through testing new fitments linked to aggressive instore advertising. But M&S is still learning the best way to get over its points of difference relating to quality, Lindsell admitted. He believes the development of exclusive varieties and packaging will play a increasing role in making this evident. As part of the makeover, in the coming year M&S is increasing consumer contact by appointing specialist greengrocer managers, and introducing more selected lines. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
