The moon may not be made of cheese, but Justin Beckett was over it when his company’s Double Gloucester was named this year’s supreme champion at the Nantwich International Cheese Show.

The Belton Cheese boss said the cheese had been made with a new recipe using milk that was high in fat, giving the product a buttery texture.

“I’m delighted our hard work has come to this,” said Beckett.

Tesco cheese buyer Mike Seymour, who judged the champion cheese, said he’d been impressed by how the product had been presented.

“The body was absolutely right, the flavour was superb and a lot of care had been taken to dress the cheese, which you don’t always see in this day and age,” he said.
