Fears of another beef safety scare, this time involving bovine TB, had subsided by midweek when a report in The Sunday Times suggesting consumers might be infected by meat from diseased carcases was not widely followed up by other media. But producer lobbying group the National Beef Association, long worried by the possibility of retailers blacklisting thousands of farmers whose herds have had TB cases, stepped up its demands for MAFF to adopt tougher though politically unpopular measures against wildlife including badgers thought to infect the cattle. {{MEAT }}
